In this video capsule, I will share a key moment that prompted my reflection on the structure of physical education sessions. This is the first of four capsules, where I will explain the reflection and shift I made in the structure to include a more global, conscious, and welcoming format that considers what happens internally with children, which is directly expressed through their bodies. I will also discuss the approach that makes sense to me for creating a more authentic, solid, and conscious structure.
My experience of feeling uncomfortable and disconnected with the structure of the sessions I was conducting led me to reflect on the need for a welcoming atmosphere that acknowledges the internal and emotional state of children. This realization prompted me to pivot and include didactic units and transversal itineraries throughout the course that are more integrated and holistic.
The structure I propose consists of three parts: initiation, main activities, and closure, incorporating transversal itineraries with activities that are cooperative, involve music, allow for free experimentation, and promote recognition of both physical and emotional spaces. It also emphasizes creating moments of silence as a means of connecting with the internal experience.
Understanding the essential ingredients for supporting students according to their context and needs is crucial. Equally important is being aware of what you do well, enabling you to present the best version of yourself as an educator. This practice is linked to globalizing methodologies, cooperative dynamics, restorative approaches, and a systemic perspective.
